If you suspect identity theft the first thing you should do is acquire all three of the big three company credit reports. Scan them carefully for errors associated with the suspected identity theft. If you are SURE someone is attempting to use your information then you should file a police report. This is a MUST!

Then, dispute all accounts of suspected identity theft with the police report. Following that dispute any other errors. You can follow the procedures for disputes on each of the bureaus web sites.

Remember, not all errors are identity theft. Some are just honest errors that can be cleared up with a dispute.
