shouldnt creditor be removed/write off debt after 1 year of no contact or notices?

Many creditors will charge-off debt after 180 days of less-than-minimum or no payments. While it could be considered written off at that point it could be & likely will be sold to collection agencies/continue to receive bills in attempt to collect. A charge off doesn't mean your not still responsible for the debt. The charge off can be reported to credit bureaus and can linger for ~7 years.

Every company could handle it differently & the statute of limitations can vary by state...7 years is a common number.
