that also depends on how much you are using on your card.  To optimize your score you dont want more then 9% showing and if you are not trying to optimize then no more then 30%.  So you would want to make sure of these points before your statement date.

Pay it after you get the statement and before the due date.  This way your credit score will show that you used the card and that you made on-time payments.  Never pay before the statement is generated.
