should i dispute 7+ yr old Closed, Derogatory remarks ?
and should I go by opened date, or last activity date?

It is date of last activity, and this should fall off soon, depending on the accxount which only you can see.  The articles here tell which ones do not drop off.

You need to go by the DOFD (date of first delinqueny). If you find you are at the seven years, then yes dispute it. If you find that you are close to the seven years, do some reading on asking for "early exclusion".
