Spend as much time as you can reading the reviews of mortgage lenders to help you get a feel of which ones may be right for you. Also, is there anything that you can do to improve your credit profile at the current time. Why is your credit poor? If you have negative accounts that are not due to fall off for a long time you should read about "Pay For Delete Agreements". If you do not have any active credit cards, simply getting one will increase your FICO scores. Pay down any balances you currently have that are in good standing to reduce your utilization (but don't pay off and close any accounts though!!). Those are just a few ideas.
