Opened and have no used it. Since new accts hurt the score, would it be wise to close the accnt?

No.  New account don't automatically hurt your score.  It depends on a lot of factors, - how much debt you have, your utilization on your open accounts, etc.  When you apply for new credit it can hurt your score slightly because of the inquiry, but since that damage is already done, I would not close it automatically.  How many open accounts do you have right now, and what is your utilization on them?  Be sure to review the articles under Resources on the left menu; they're quite helpful.
