You should read the articles here to inform yourself on credit. You answered your own question. I'd consider writing a forgiveness letter to fingerhut and see if they'll make an exception for you and remove the baddie. This method isn't guarenteed but often works...I'd suggest starting there and being more aware of your due dates.

Yes, one missed payment can drop your score 100 points or more; as you've discovered. From your question, it's obvious you have not read up on credit and how it works. Please read the articles here and other websites to understand how credit scores work.

It does not matter if it was 1 dollar, 18 dollars or 3000 dollars,  you were Late!  Period, Late is Late.

It dropped because you Missed a Payment and now have a Late Payment on your Credit Report and it will stay there for 7 years.

Thats Why!

...unfortunately, it's because you missed a payment. In the future, I would suggest that you set up billpay or similar from your bank's website. I don't know about or use Fingerhut, but do they also have an autopay setup you can use as an alternate?
