One bad credit card - how to rid?
I have a credit card that went unpaid with a high balance from 2010. My TransUnion report shows a "charge-off" CLOSED account which hurts me less than Experian, which shows an OPEN card (unpaid for approx 56 months). This is the only negative factor on my credit history that I need to change. I have 20+ other accounts in good standing, all paid on time, in full, and never late. But having 56+ months of "non-payment" brings my %repayment to 86% (VERY POOR) and brings my %utilization to 50% (all other open accounts are less than 10% used.) My question is: HOW TO GET THE STATUS OF THIS CARD "CLOSED?" ...or at least charged off. Being OPEN is killing me. I have been advised not to contact the creditor as it may re-open statue of limitations. And I cannot afford to settle anyway. Any advice??
