Numbers all over the landscape
I have read many attempts at explaining the variance between credit scores, and I get the distinct impression no one knows what the heck is going on: Lengthy explanations of "different scoring models," but never a coherent syllable to explain why there are so many, who uses what, which one is most authoritative, or why there has been no effort to standardize them.

These are my latest numbers. Where possible (that is, if the website discloses what source they're using), I've included the brand name.

Notice the gap between highest (737) and lowest (664). That's a 73-point spread. Utterly ridiculous -- particularly since multiple providers claim to be tracking the same thing.

CreditKarma - Experian - 737
CreditKarma - TransUnion - 722
Barclaycard - TransUnion FICO - 708
Merrick Bank - TransUnion FICO - 729
CreditSesame - TransUnion Vantage 3 - 720
Credit.com - 717
Credit.com - VantageScore 3.0 - 723
Discover - Experian FICO - 664
