Cancel Cards

No it could actually hurt because you are decreasing your number of open accounts and also shortening your length of credit history. First of all make sure he is not authorized to use those cards any more and take him off the accounts. Get the accounts current and pay them off as soon as you can, but steadily decrease the utilization percentage on the cards if you can't. As those percentages come down and the on time payments rack up, you will see an increase in your credit score. Also if they are caught up, see if you can work with the creditors to remove the late payment reports of if they are deraogatory, see if they will remove them as a courtesy. All the best of luck, hope this helps.
