Any time you apply for credit the potential lender pulls your credit report, which is an inquiry.  If you are shopping for a car (or mortgage or credit card), and you shop around within the same 30 day time period, then all inquiries for the same type of credit (i.e. auto) only counts against your credit score as ONE inquiry, even if you went to several places.  However, you need to make sure it's done within 30 day time frame.  Inquiries count for 10% of your credit score.  Hope this helps.
