The two may not have anything to do with each other... The fallecy of "Post hoc ergo propter hoc" apply often to credit score movement, where B changed after A, therefore it must've caused by A. It's rarely true.

When you paid off this credit card, was this a pay off and the card closed?  This will lower your credit score.   Was the payment late by a day which also would take a very hit to your score.   You will want to check the details of the report to see what was actually reported.
