Pay in full=good, close=bad.

What you want is a high level of available credit.  When you close an account, you reduce your total available credit by whatever the credit limit was on [the account you closed, and that hurts your score.  Please read the articles provided on this site so you can better understand exactly how credit works, because teaching credit is what this site is all about.
