That sucks...

This all depends on what kind of bankruptcy (Ch 7 versus Ch 13), if there is collateral involved in the loan you co-signed on, and how much we're talking about here.

I would save up to cover any expected shortfall that you may end up eating (as co-signer), but I'd also wait to see if they come to you first (the creditor may or may not come after you for anything left on the note.)
