A thin file is because you do not have credit.   All the "bills"  (phone, utilities, cable, etc.) do not count for you on your credit.  They only count against if it is unpaid.   If your wife holds a credit card, consider her adding you to her credit cards as an authorized user and you can get the benefits of her good work.  (Age, payments and Utilizaiton.)   If she has a maxed out card, don't get added to that one.   If she has one with payment issues, stay off that one as well.   Otherwise, you'll need to secure a credit card in your name or both names in which to begin the process of building credit.
