Credit Karma is free to us because of the advertising paid for by the credit card companies who are actually sponsoring this site.  Their recommendations are based on the information from Transunion but their corporate decision may come from information from one of the other two credit bureaus.  Once you learn from CK what your credit score flaws may be and you correct them (how to do so is in the articles on this site) then you'll be able to apply for all the credit cards you may see with little trouble.

Teaching people about credit is what Credit Karma was set up for.  I've learned a lot and made necessary corrections for my benefit, so you can do it, too.
