just receieved a collections never did before if i pay off a collections will my credit score go up

A paid collection will score better than an open one.

Negotiate before you pay

Yes paying would be marginally better than not paying, but DON'T instantly pay it!  First send the collection agency a Pay To Delete letter; if you just pay it the collection will be on your report for 7 years.  If they agree to delete it when you pay, you will not have to worry about it.  You may be able to negotiate lower than the bill in the first place.  But just having that collection on your report is lowering your score drastically, if it is paid or not.
