We cannot see what issues you have, but there is nothing totally hopeless.  First thing to do is make sure that what is being reported on your credit reports is actually YOURS.  You should know to whom you owe money, so other things on the reports could be errors.  Go to annualcreditreport.com and get copies of all three credit reports.  Look them over very carefully and file disputes on WRONG information (not your account, never lived at that address, etc) with the credit bureau reporting them.  They have to investigate and either verify the account or delete it.  Make it a habit to check your credit accounts every year to be sure all errors are removed.

As for current credit accounts, you must make regular payments on them.  Late payments are not good.  If you have a history showing late payments, get into the habit of getting those payments in well before the due date.

Late payments will show on your credit reports for 7 years and there is no way of shortening that period, which is required by law.  So, building a history of reliable payments starts putting good marks on your reports.

If much of your debt is from credit cards, stop using them.  You need to get the debts paid off to increase your credit score.  Concentrate on paying as much as possible to the lowest balance card, while keeping minimum payments going to the remainder.  When this card is paid, thake what you were paying to it and add it to the minimum on the next card until it is paid off, and continue in this pattern.  It works, because I've done it, and so have many others.

Don't give up.  You can get your credit life back on track with a bit of work on your part.
