each inquiry on your report

will lower your score by 3-4 points,  go over 5 inquiries in any 2 year period and it will lower your score by 5-6 points for each inquiry.  Thats just a rule of thumb but you can see how they will add up.   5 inquiries in a short period of time can lower your score 25-30 points.  That can be a big deal if your score is low or your building or rebuilding credit.   The reality is that once a new account is established and a few payments are made to it, the lost points for the inquiry will go away and your score should bounce back up.

Good luck

The purpose of tracking your inquiries is to protect lenders from over extending credit to someone that may not be able to manage it.
