Best if you can get the loan on your own.  If married, it might be best if both spouses take out the loan together, but if one spouse has lousy credit, the one with the good credit might be the best to take on the loan.  You DO NOT want to have to have a co-signer, because that means your credit is too risky to get a loan at a decent rate and you certainly don't want to be a co-signer for anyone else, unless you can afford to lose the money.
