No, it is not a good idea. In fact, it is a terrible idea. When you close accounts it usually results in score decreases, so closing your current card may result in getting denied for the one you want to apply for. I highly suggest that you spend some time reading about credit, there is a lot of info on here and across the net. Always make sure that you know what you are doing before you take action, which you came on here and asked your question, so that was wise.
