I'm confused on my Average Age of Open Credit Lines
So I have had one credit card for 5 years now and up until last july 2012 my average age of credit reflected that. However, I requested and was approved for a small student loan of $5,000 last summer and all of a sudden the average age of my open credit line dropped by 26 months. I don't understand. I understand that asking for a student loan does result in a hard inquiry which is bad but what about this drops the average age of my credit line?
