If my total goes from 404,000 to 142,000 will my credit score go up?

If you are referring to "debt", then yes it probably would cause scores to increase, but if you will be closing accounts in the process, it may not. For best credit scores, credit cards should be paid to zero with the exception of one card reporting a small balance (no need to carry balance, just have balance reported to credit bureaus), and loans should be paid way down, but not paid off and closed. That is advice for credit boosting, saving the most money would be a different answer.
