If my student loans are forgiven, will that raise my credit score since there is less debt?

It is going to depend on how much credit and the history of that credit that you may have should the student loans be forgiven.  It's for sure that late/defaulted student loans would remain a negative on your credit score for the rest of your life if they weren't, and they might be a negative for up to 7 years if they are forgiven.

Student loans are *rarely* forgiven. You have to meet very specific criteria.
