if i pay off my debt on my credit cards all at once, would this improve my score?

Yes, paying off credit card debt will help scores if you are utilizing a pretty good percent of your credit lines, just don't close any cards though. Do some reading on "credit utilization and scores" to help further your understanding.

Not exactly.  A zero balance is graded as a "C" in utiilization. 1%-20% is graded an "A".  If your presently have a "D" or wrose then paying off the cars will raise the score.  If you have an "A "or a "B" utilization then paying them will drop your score.  No one will argue that having no debt is always better than paying interest but managing the credit score is a different animal
