The ability to file bankruptcy on debt is based upon your ability to repay the debt which takes income, expesnes and assets into consideration.   If it could possibly be repaid over a period of time with adjustment to standard of living or even a substantial portion your ability to file Chapter could be limited.   You could be seeing a Chapter 13.    Without knowing your true financial status, you should consult with a local bankrupty attorney for the best guidance and advice.
