I just paid off a debt that was derogatory on my credit is there a way to get it removed

If it doesn't update with accurate information, then you could dispute it and hope it is removed rather than corrected. If all information is update and accurate on the account your only option is to ask for a goodwill deletion from the creditor/debt collector reporting it. There is a lot of info on the net on how to write a good goodwill letter. In the future, if you ever have to deal with this again, you attempt to get a Pay For Delete Agreement prior to paying the debt. You have more bargaining power before handing over the money. Do some research on PFDs (pay for delete) to learn more.
