I have a student loan listed that is not mine
What do I do about a credit liste on my report that is a student loat from 2000 that is not mine?

Go to annualcreditreport.com and run it on all 3 for free (once per year). That way you can verify it it is on all 3 credit agencies or not. Also those reports will have the contact info for the company if you do not already have it.  You want to contact both the credit agencies (all that have it listed) and the loan servicer in wiritng. The reason I say both is that under the FCRA, both the credit reporting company and the information provider (that is, the person, company, or organization that provides information about you to a credit reporting company) are responsible for correcting inaccurate or incomplete information in your report.

You need to include your basic identifying information in the letter, a copy of your credit report with the contested loan highlighted and basically explain why it is reported incorrectly and attach copies of any evidence that you might have to prove it is not accurate.  Both will conduct investigations within 30 days, and if successful they are required to not only fix it, but if requested to resend the new report to anyone who did a credit check on you in the prior 6 months. They will also send you a free updated credit report.
