If you've already paid it and it remains on your credit reports, you can send a goodwill letter to the collection company and beg them to remove the account from your reports. Usually they will not do it, but it is worth a try. You can google "goodwill letter to collection company" to get an idea how to do it, but basically it is just a letter asking for them to be kind and remove the negative.

Whenever getting ready to pay a collection or other negative on your credit reports always try to get a "pay for delete agreement" prior to paying. Some companies will do PFDs and some won't, but always worth a try.
