As said, do some searching on the internet. What ever you do, do not contact the company even if they are legit until you have done some thorough reading on how to deal with debt collectors. Even legit debt collectors often run shady practices. Find the "statute of limitations" in your state to be sued for this type of debt to learn if you are legally on the hook or not. Do what you can to make sure that they do not place this on your credit reports. Do some reading on the FDCPA (fair debt collection practices act). Don't enter any payment plans or agreements.
