How would it affect my score if I take the suggestion to consolidate my credit cards?

You have to weigh the benifit.

If you have higher balances on high interest cards there could be a benifit.  You could pay off the cards and diversify your report.  Be careful when looking at consolidation loans, They often stretch out that payment over a long period of time. Also if you're strugling to pay those cards now, you may not qualify for the best rates on that loan.

If you do take the loan, be sure NOT to run those cards back up again, Its easy to do and will only hurt you in the long run.
