First, The seven year itch!  the law requires that negitive items be removed after 7 years, But you can contact the lender and ask them to remove negitive info. It is at their discretion.

Second. Do Not Close or Cancel  Credit Card Acounts. This has a negitive effect on your credit.  If you no longer want to use a particular card, Cut it up or shred it but leave the account open. A zero balance is better than a " Account Closed" which creditors will assume the lender closed because of something you did.

Third, If you have paid off bad debts and cleared things up with the lender, Write a letter to the lender.. Send a copy to all 3 reporting agencys. In the letter state that you have cleared the debt (give specifics like dates and amounts) and that you would like the information updated with the reporting agencies. Give them a time limit. ususally 30 days. If they do not responde the reporting agencies are required to act. Usually with in 60 days.

Repairing credit is a long tedious issue, it takes time for all that reporting and transfering of info to happen, even in this day and age of instant comunication.

It is amazing how fast bad credit is put on a persons credit but how slow it takes them to remove it. yet you have to fight to get it removed .

Credit karma just seems to like no update if you pay accounts off etc. It used to, guess with more users added the less and less effcient this is. Rather pay 10 bucks a month and get an accurate report.
