how long will over the limit stay on report i was $12.00 over on one c.c first time
any thing that can be done bout it ?

Over limit is negative information, and negative information stays on credit reports for 7 years (except for judements, liens, and bankruptcies which are 10  years).

If you have a good relationship and history with your credit card issuer, their executive office may approve a request to remove the over limit from your credit report.  This is known as a "Goodwill Letter" and you can Google it for more information if you are interested in pursuing one.
