How does getting a credit card raise your credit score? Do I charge things & pay it off immediately?

By having a credit card(s)? You will have payments history both positives and of course the negatives, it's a quick way to show how responsible you are with your spending and how you handle your debt. Paying it "on-time" before the due date that's most important. You don't need to (really shouldn't) carry balance and paying interest to build your credit history like some believes. Just be aware your scores will take dip in the short term for inquiry(s) and new account(s) before it gets better in probably 3~4 months, always read the "terms and conditions" and the fine prints before you apply. One last thing, please do NOT go by Credit Karma's approval odds.
