Rule #1: Call a lawyer and talk to a few different ones before making any decision. Most lawyers will go over explaining how bankruptcy works and what your options are - and most of them do the initial consultation for free.  Rule #2: The Internet is chock-full of information about this... take some time and research it, starting with your state's public/government websites. Rule #3: There is no rule #3.
