Strangely, you need to have credit in which to get credit.   The easiest way is for you to give yourself credit, well, you contact a credit card provider that offers what is called a secured credit card.  This is one where you make a deposit to guarantee the amount of credit you want.   The higher the initial deposit, the higher your credit limit.  The money isn't yours so once you put it on deposit, consider it spent.  Then, when they issue you a card, you use it wisely, making timely payments and keeping the balance as low as possible.  After several months of this, you build a reputation.  Once this reputation begins, other credit card vendors will look at your more favorably and begin to offer you better cards with better interest and even rewards for using the cards.   You accept one of these other cards while keeping your secured card and continue the same process with any additional card you secure.  Just because you start getting offers, don't rush to get 5 or 10 more cards too quickly.  Accept only one offer every 6 months to a year.   They will literally come out of the woodwork to work with you as you should that you are reliable and trustworthy.   When you select your secured card, select one that will change your account to unsecured after a period of time and refund your deposit.   Not all cards offer to do this, you need to read the small print.  Also, secure one that has the smallest annual fee and does not have any monthly fees tacked on.  Choose your first card wisely and read all the reviews on that credit card company.   If I was to recommend, I would look to USAAA or Capital One.
