If you are new to building credit or have poor credit and looking to rebuild, you should get a Secured credit card. If your credit is ok, then you may qualify for an Unsecured credit card. Credit card companies have websites and you can check the preapprovals, keep in mind that some have accurate preapprovals and some do not. A preapproval does not affect your credit, but when you go ahead and actually apply, you will get a Hard Inquiry and that has a slight negative effect on your credit, so don't go crazy and be sure to research the credit card you are thinking about applying for before actually applying. Just make sure that you get a card that reports to all three credit bureaus, most do, but it should be kept in mind.
