Know your credit!

To fix your credit; first start by getting a copy of your "free" credit report. Look at all the items in collections, public records, late payments, etc........ Dispute errors and items that are inaccurate, make sure your contact info is up to date. Weigh your options when paying off collections, are they close to the fall off date (7 year period) Are they past the Statute of Limitations by your state's requirements, also try to negotiate debts by asking for "pay for delete", the idea is to remove all negative items from your file. You can also ask to have late payments removed from current creditor (if you can prove that it was just an isolated incident). Once you do all these things, then you can apply for a small credit card and make small purchaces to help build your credit, or take out a furniture loan, or jewelry loan, something affordable. Building your credit takes time. About 3-6 months to start off with.... This is just a tip of the iceberg of things you can do. Browse around do some research. Good luck my friend.
