Most collection information should be on your credit report.  If not I would find out from the credit bureau's as they would have the information.  Disputing it may be your best bet first.  Then send a debt validation letter to the collection agency through certified mail and see if they will respond.  If not, take that copy of the certified letter with the date to prove they didn't respond within 30 days and the credit reporting company may delete the information from your report.
