Go to your local Credit Union.

now days there are credit unions in most cities that will take you as a member, Generally just for living in the town.  You'll be making a deposit in a savings acccount,  whats known as a Share account.  Basicly credit unions are "Owned" by their members so the money you put into the account is your shares in the Credit union.   Use this account as a savings account that will secure a credit card. Know as a Secured Credit Card.    The credit limit will be secured by that savings.. generally $300 to $500 is where they start. This card will start being reported to the Credit bureaus.  Once you have some history (6 months to a year) you will be able to apply for more unsecured credit cards. At about a year, I suggest applying for a small loan from the credit union.  that will help flesh out the variety if credit in  your file.

Take some time to learn how credit works.  Read the articles here on CK so that you avoid the most common mistakes that people make when they start out using credit.  Yoiur credit score is the most important number in your financial life. It will have an effect on everything from the interest rates you get on credit cards and loans to how much your auto and other insurance costs each year.. Some Jobs will do a credit check as well and can determine if you get a job or not.

Remember:  Good credit is not a reflection of how much money you have but how well you manage it.

Good luck
