For most negative information such as credit card debt, you would dispute the negative items with the credit bureaus as "too old to report" if the 7 year mark is reached. The three credit bureaus are Transunion, Equifax and Experian and their websites will have a dispute link. Keep in mind that some things such as Federal loans do not have a 7 year time limit. Also, never try to remove old accounts that were closed in good standing as doing so would have a negative effect on your reports.
