How can I update an account status with the bureaus?
I paid off an account that had been sent to collection. I want it reflect as "paid" or better yet have it removed from the bureaus.

The only way it would have any chance to be removed is if you had negotiated a  "pay for delete" arrangement with the creditor/collection agency before the final payoff.  It will show as paid but the fact that it had gone to collections will show on your credit report.until it drops off in 7 years.  Please read the articles on this site so you can learn more about how credit works.  That is what Credit Karma is all about.
