How about paying off closed credit cards?
I realize paying down the balance on open credit cards helps your ratio, but how about paying off credit cards which are closed but you still owe money on? Paying these off has not helped my credit.

Paying them off will look much better than having an unpaid balance remaining.  Your credit in general is damaged by irresponsible money handllin such as not paying your bills as agreed.  Consequently, no one wants to let you use their money because they are afraid they won't be repaid.

So paying off the cards and making sure ALL of your bills are paid on time and paid in full ASAP will work to your advantage.
