Had a BK in 2011 and 3 home foreclosures... bad time, problem with business (long story).
The good news is that's all behind us now and we're paying our rent and all bills on time each month (now 3 years).

Question: why isn't the credit score affected by proper payment of rent, utilities, etc... each month? #curious

Electric.  Gas.  Water/Sewer.  Rent.  None of that is considered credit, so it will never show up.  But it's a double edged sword.  Don't pay any one of those and watch how fast a negative appears on your credit report.
