going to close 6 accounts. what happens to my credit score

Depends

If the 6 accounts in question are all credit cards, then your score will drop quite a bit since you're lowering your credit limit (and upping your credit utilization score).  If they're not credit cards your score will still take a hit but not as heavily.

Unless you know you won't be able to control the spending on the 6 accounts and you'll fall back into bad habits, try to keep them open until they expire on their own.
