What kind of open accounts? Open collection accounts? Open accounts in good standing is what builds and maintains good credit. Take some time to do some reading.

Open accounts that are active (used occasionally) are excellent for your credit score.  Closing accounts after paying them off is stupid and hurts one's score. Having the intelligence to realize that life is an on-going learning process and being willing to learn new skills by reading and practicing (as is offered on this site) would be a wise choice.  I'm on a fixed income and this knowledge has been a huge help.
