Prepaid cards do not help your credit score. Secured credit cards do. Witha  secured credit card, you amke a deposit witht eh bank and you get a credit card int he ammount of the deposit. Then you amke payments like a credit card. If you do not qualify for a regular credit card, you should get that. In a few months (usually 6) you should be able to call the credit card issuer and covert it to an unsecured card.

You should consider your local credit union. Credit unions, unlike a bank, are non-profit and owned by the shareholders i.e. the accoutn holders. They tend to be much nicer to deal with, they are more likely to approve you for their credit card etc.... I have a regualr bank for oversees tranactions and a local credit union. Every time i have needed a loan, i pit the two againt each otehr and the credit union alway comes up with better offers. Credit unions also have extensive agreements with other local credit uniosn so even travelling is a breeze...,
