Does getting a creditor to take back a debt from a collections agency remove derogatory marks?
There are no late history payments on my credit report, just an "open account in collections" that results in one derogatory mark. If I have the creditor take the debt back from the collections agency, will the derogatory mark go away because the account will no longer be in collections? This is a university, not a traditional bank.

If the collection is the university, you can negotatiate pay for deletion. If it is not, you have to make the university negotiate that with the collection agency or you shoudl neogtiate with the collection agency by yourself. Either way get everything in writing before you pay....
