Direct Loan Consolidation - Nelnet made mistake?
Hi everyone,
I am in the process of consolidating my student loans through a Federal Direct Loan Consolidation. I received an email from Nelnet, the servicer I chose during the application process, and they told me that "at least one of my student loans cannot be consolidated, as it appears to be a private loan". I was confused by this because I have no private loans. All of my loans are Stafford loans and all are accounted for on the NSLDS website. I emailed them back and asked them to explain and they ignored me. I plan to call tomorrow, but my question is: could I have a private loan and not know about it? Is Nelnet required to give me details on these loans they deem to be private? Thanks in advance for your help!
