Collection placed on report after 6 years, never reported before, is this legal?
This bedt was never reported , it was opened in 2007 and just showed up on my report a couple of months ago with a different opened date, can a collection agency do this?

if they bought the loan

Yes they can. 

I would go ahead and mail a "Validation Letter" to the Credit Reporting agency. Google it for a template.

This will require them to verify that the loan is legal and that they have followed the law in trying to collect it. 

Do not contact the lender directly until your sure you have to pay it.
